What is a ⅙ barrel keg?

The big, stereotypical keg that you are probably picturing in your head right now is what's called a ½ barrel keg and it holds 15.5 gallons of beer. Due to Ohio liquor laws, we are only allowed to sell ⅙ barrel kegs (also known as sixtels or ⅙ BBL) which are one third the size of that half barrel keg you were just thinking about.

So how much beer is in one of these ⅙ barrel kegs?

A ⅙ barrel keg contains 5.16 gallons of beer, which should yield you approximately 40 pints or 55 12oz pours.

Do I need to pay a keg deposit?

All keg purchases require require either a $30 refundable deposit or the exchange an empty keg in good condition.
